The Priest of Blood A Dark Fantasy Vampire Epic The Vampyricon Book 1 eBook Douglas Clegg
The first half told about the terrible disparity between the poor and nobility in the middle ages and the struggles to survive our hero endured. As the second part progressed it became a story of various forms of demons and the gods of early Earth. Once our hero becomes a vampire, he becomes "the one" to teach others to hold humans as special rather than disposable blood containers. Plenty of war and killing along the way as well as examples of man's inhumanity to each other. It appeared to me to be set up for the reader to continue reading the next book in the series.Product details

The Priest of Blood A Dark Fantasy Vampire Epic The Vampyricon Book 1 eBook Douglas Clegg Reviews
This book was really good at parts and really boring at others. Lots of philosophical descriptions of feelings and mythology. It took a while to get started and I almost put it down. I really enjoyed the first half about his mortal life and thought about recommending the book to others, but when he becomes a vampire he gets too much into the philosophy of being a vampire. It took about 5-10% of the book to explain how everything felt once he’d transformed. There were times throughout when I really just wanted to get on with the plot. Not planning on buying next book, honestly.
I enjoyed the book & I also enjoyed the author's writing. He didn't write in a modern manner so-to-speak but in a rather older English style which I found refreshing. It reminded me a little of J R R Tolkein.
Liked most of the content, fairly original approach on the vampires concept. I also liked the premises of the story starting in the Brittany region (since that's where I grew up D). However, the writing style is somewhat slow and lengthy and I struggled finishing this volume. Not sure I'm interested enough to continue reading this trilogy. The hero has it a bit too easy, all things considered. And the last trap he falls into seems just, well, stupid -/ I have a feeling he'll easily and conveniently escape that as well, so... Meh.
This is book 1 of 3 in a trilogy that marks the life and unlife of Aleric. You follow him through his miserable childhood and into his destructive vampiric nature.
But this doesn't follow normal vampiric mythology but Clegg has inserted his own mythos that creates a new take on the vampire.
Think of Frank Herbert's Dune series with a dash of Lord of the Rings and mix that with a hint of Lovecraft. Excellent read and will happily devour the next installment!
The story line was great. Its a non stop reading book. I cant wait to read the other parts and other books you have also written. Its scary but peaceful. Its gross but interesting at the same time. Learning about different things and the ancient history. I love ventages of story lines. Clearly great oroof reading. Thats a 100%. I can read and keep understanding where i am and what i am reading....thank you
I really liked this book, sad though as it was mostly. It really makes you appreciate being born in this time that's for sure. Most people had it so bad in the past centuries and this story just reinforced that for me. It's like reading a story of how a poor kid lived in ancient times and then the vampire part of course lol, but really good book! I wish there were more vampire stories written really well like this one was. Pretty easy read mostly, some things for a bit repetitious but it wasn't that bad. Worth the read for sure! and two more books to go!
This is a story about a boy named Aleric who lived during that transitional time between Roman rule and British rule. He was a poor boy who lived with his mother and had at least 11 brother's and sisters. His grandfather brought him up on stories of the past telling him he was born from a priestly lineage. His mother tells him it's all lies and fairy tales. He doesn't believe her because she's a whore. As a boy he hates her for this but as an adult he understands why she does it. She has many mouths to feed.
He finds favor with one of the warriors and is brought to live in the Baron's castle as a bird boy or one who tends the Baron's flock. He works hard to move up his station in life and becomes the Baron's falconer. He is so good this job that people begin to call him Falconer instead of Aleric. Because of his position as the Baron's falconer he is on the front lines of war with the warriors.
His mother is charged with witchcraft and murder and sentenced to burn to death. Between memories of the fate of his mother and all the warring Aleric decides to give up on life and heads to a place people call Hell' s gate to die. When he gets there it is not a literal gateway to he'll but a long forgotten castle. He finds a girl inside whom he believes has been kidnapped as she is chained to the wall. However he finds out pretty quickly that she is not what she seems. She is a vampire and has turned him into one.
Turning into a vampire starts him off on new adventures sure to be a matter of Life and death.
